HOW IT WORKS:

• Meropenem is a beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
• It binds to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to the disruption of cell wall formation and causing bacterial cell death.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

• Administered as an intravenous injection or infusion by a healthcare professional.
• Dosage and duration are based on the type and severity of infection and the patient’s medical condition.
• Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for the full course of treatment to ensure complete eradication of the infection. 

SIDE EFFECTS:

• Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and rash.
• Serious: Severe allergic reactions, seizures, liver function abnormalities, and severe diarrhea (Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea).

Report any persistent or severe side effects to your healthcare provider immediately. 

WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS:

• Contraindications: Do not use if you are allergic to meropenem or any other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, cephalosporins). It is also contraindicated for patients with severe hypersensitivity reactions to other carbapenems.
• Consultation: Inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions, especially kidney or liver disease, seizure disorders, or a history of gastrointestinal disease. Discuss all medications and supplements you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.
• Interactions: Can interact with valproic acid (used to treat seizures), reducing its effectiveness. Consult your doctor before combining it with other medications.
• Storage: Store the vials at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. Follow specific storage instructions provided by your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
• Dosage Adherence: Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip doses or discontinue use prematurely, as this can lead to antibiotic resistance and reduce the effectiveness of treatment.
