This medication is used to prevent or treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Gentamicin belongs to a class of drugs known as aminoglycosides antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

BENEFITS:

  • Treats a variety of bacterial infections, including those in the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and skin.
  • Effective against severe infections caused by gram-negative bacteria.
  • Used in the treatment of infections where other antibiotics may not be effective.

HOW IT WORKS:

Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. This action disrupts bacterial growth and replication, effectively killing the bacteria.

  • Consultation: Inform your doctor of any history of kidney disease, hearing problems, or neuromuscular disorders. Discuss all current medications and medical conditions before starting treatment.
  • Interactions: Be cautious with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs, such as certain diuretics or antibiotics, which may increase the risk of kidney or hearing damage.
  • Storage: Store at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid freezing.
  • Dosage Adherence: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and schedule. Do not self-medicate or discontinue treatment without consulting your healthcare provider. Report any side effects or unusual symptoms immediately.
