It is recommended that the diet should be rich fruits and vegetables. It is better to consult with your healthcare supervisor before taking the medicine.

BENEFITS:

  • Helps in weight loss and maintenance by preventing the absorption of dietary fats.
  • Reduces the risk of regaining weight after initial weight loss.
  • Aids in managing obesity-related conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

HOW IT WORKS:

Orlistat works by inhibiting the action of lipase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down fats in the diet. This inhibition prevents the absorption of approximately 30% of the fat consumed, which is then eliminated from the body through bowel movements.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

  • Take one capsule three times a day with each main meal containing fat (during or up to one hour after the meal).
  • Swallow the capsule whole with water.
  • Follow a nutritionally balanced, mildly hypocaloric diet that contains approximately 30% of calories from fat.
  • Distribute daily intake of fat, carbohydrates, and protein over three main meals.

SIDE EFFECTS:

  • Common: Oily or fatty stools, increased number of bowel movements, urgent need to defecate, flatulence with discharge, and abdominal pain or discomfort.
  • Serious: Severe liver injury symptoms (e.g., itching, jaundice, dark urine, loss of appetite, or upper stomach pain).

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe side effects.

WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS:

  • Contraindications: Do not use if you have chronic malabsorption syndrome, cholestasis, or if you are allergic to orlistat. Avoid during pregnancy.
  • Consultation: Inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney stones, pancreatitis, diabetes, thyroid problems, or eating disorders. Discuss all other medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are taking.
  • Interactions: Be cautious of interactions with cyclosporine, warfarin, levothyroxine, and medications affecting fat absorption. Vitamins A, D, E, and K supplements may be required as orlistat can interfere with their absorption.
  • Storage: Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and out of reach of children.
  • Dosage Adherence: Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, but skip it if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.
